Ford may be a company that went on to become a household name of America, but not it was the Mack Brothers Limited that was incorporated before the Ford Motor Company. Building trucks that carry loads of stuff across the length and breadth of the nation so that the goods for all the needs of the nation can be supplied. But there have been some myths attached to these Mack Trucks which Mack dealers have to deal with.
When the company first introduced air disk brakes to its trucks there were all sorts of myth associated with it. The first speculation was about the weight of these disk brakes; they were slightly heavier than the drum brakes that existed at that time, but the big drum breaks were more heavy. Moreover, the new disk breaks were made to meet the changed norms of safe distance highway parking.
Another myth about Mack is that if you drive behind the trucks on the highway, it will increase the fuel efficiency of your car. It can be true, but you have to drive at least three feet behind the truck and not flex the gas pedal. But this is not a safe way to drive for an improved mileage of one or two miles.
One more myth about these truck was that in the early days the 250 hp engines gad a problem of throwing flames from the exhaust. The ill maintained trucks with rotten exhaust pipes are likely to malfunction in this way, but it can happen to any trucks, not just Mack. So these myths don't hold any value for those who use these trucks for their transportation needs, but truck dealers have to clear the doubts and tell the facts to potential buyers.
As a matter of fact the US Army mainly uses Mack Trucks for its various needs, including trans continental surveys to study the needs for national highway systems. The company was started as Mack Brothers Company initially and was later named Mack Truck Inc. In the 1970 Renault started investing in the company and today it is a fully owned subsidy of Renault Industrial Vehicles.
